This particular attack does not have to use jello but it is possibly most well known for the use of it with Jello in the television show the Office. Basically in this attack you take all the items on a persons desk and wrap them in something like aluminum foil or suspend them in Jello. This obviously works best if the person is out of the office for a day. Further please don’t suspend electronic equipment in Jello, or if you do don’t blame me when it no longer works.

If you do this to one of your co-workers send in a snapshot of it.

Hopefully that will shape up in the next few days. Also remember that if you have any ideas or requests send them to the tip line at tips@officewarfare.net. That way I can keep providing you all interesting content.

One that is really hard to track down only works if your associate has a powered USB hub of some kind, often a monitor. You can unplug the USB cable that feeds it but not the power. Any USB powered device will detect a USB connection but the computer wont. This can be difficult to track down since the device sees USB power which looks like a connection.

Welcome back for another installment of Saturday Hobbies. I write this as I drive down the road in the back of a car on a rainy Saturday. So the last couple of Saturday Hobbies have been a bit … productive. This weekend we are playing online game, nothing productive about that! There are quite a few options in the online gaming world but we are going to take a look at three of them, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, and Ultima Online.

Now this may seem a bit incomplete or a bit odd but I have my reasons. Lets start with World of Warcraft, this is probably the most successful online game in the history of online gaming. Blizzard reported reaching 10 million subscribers this year which is unparalled by any other online game. What sets it apart? In my opinion, the thing that make WoW a cut above the mustard is excellent programing. I played the game for a while a year or so ago and I cant ever remember it crashing or getting disconnected. Not to mention a huge world to explore and balanced game play.

Next lets take a look at Eve Online, I personally haven’t played Eve but I know some people who have. Eve is the main space online game out there. The main thing that sets Eve apart is their system of gaining skills while offline. It is the only online game that the casual gamer has much of a chance at excelling at. So if you have kids, a wife, or a girlfriend (or all three) Eve might be the game for you.

Finally I would like to bring it back to the old school. Ultima Online. Ultima is the first Massively Multiplayer Online game, they invented, they made it popular and amazingly enough they still have subscribers. I am proud (sad/embarrassed) to say I was a subscriber to UO from the very first month. I understand that it is probably unlikely that you are going to pay to play UO when you could be playing one of the other fancy Online Games out there right now but you could always try out a free server of UO. It is still one of the most unique online games and there are a lot of strong free servers. Give the runuo.com community (uodivinty.com) a try some time.

Last but not least I want to share with you what may be the next Space Online Game. The game is unfortunately at the moment not finished but it has been a work in progress for the last several years. That game is Infinity Online. Check it out this project is coming along quite well and they can always use help with modeling and other things.

It is amaizing how often new processes are launched on your computer, all of them doing their own thing and a lot of times you have no idea they are doing it. This can be a dangerious thing if your friends have been learning about office warfare and are startring to install things on your computer. However it does us little good to just watch the task manager since there are a lot of processes that start when your computer starts up and it can be hard to sort it all out.

However monitoring new processes can be quite useful since that will show you what new things are cropping up all the time. Fortunately for all of us there is a great scripting language that comes pre built into windows machines called Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) that when coupled with the Visual Basic Scripting language (vbs) will allow us to monitor new processes.

Lets look at the code after the break.

strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colMonitorProcess = objWMIService.ExecNotificationQuery _
("SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent " _
& " WITHIN 1 WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_Process'")
WScript.Echo "Process Watcher Started"
i = 0
do while (i<10)
Set objLatestEvent = colMonitorProcess.NextEvent
Wscript.Echo "Process Name: " & objLatestEvent.TargetInstance.Name
i = i+1
loop

Basically this code creates a winmgmts object for the local comptuer (.) and does a ExecNotificationQuery that asks to be notified of the creation of any win32_process classes. Then int lets us know that the process has been created with a message box. The script closes after it has detected 10 new processes otherwise you would have to kill wscript.exe in the task manager to end it. If you want it to loop continuously jsut change
do while (i<10)
to
do while (1)
